My dad turned 60 in March &
we are throwing him a belated
birthday party the end of this month.
(shh, it's a surprise)
I don't know if it's all the prep for that,
and the thought of getting his siblings, cousins
& other yea-who's together that has me thinking
a lot about my grandparents (his parents) lately.
I can't even describe how much I loved them. . .
still do in fact.
My granny was my favorite-
I know your not suppose to pick favorites with family members,
but it is true-she is my very fave!
I think in all families there are ones
who just 'get' each other.
We did that for each other.
I feel so sad that my little chickens don't have the
blessing of feeling the incredible love she had for her family,
but I know that by knowing me they know her.
They know how much I love a good visit with a dear friend,
that's Wilma.
They know that I think a full belly equals a happy person,
that's Wilma.
They know that I like to curl up on the couch and
get lost in a book, a magazine or pinterest,
that's Wilma.
(well, pinterest for me & the national enquirer for her)
They have Elvis, Frankie Valli & Bobby Darin
downloaded on their ipods,
that's Wilma.
They know that I hate wearing shoes,
that's Wilma.
They know that I'm going to squeeze them, kiss them,
and love on them most of the day,
that's Wilma.
And they know that I hold family above everything else,
that's Wilma.
I love these old pictures of them.
They were always so in love.
Such an amazing example of what a good marriage is.
My Grandad was the coolest!
He always had the funniest stories,
he was always, always happy &
usually whistling.
He taught us funny (and slightly off color) limericks.
He let us play in his 'man cave' with all his cool stuff.
He was my grannies chaperon,
because she never had a drivers license.
He taught us to love Indy car racing,
and took us for rides in 'the bus'.
We was the strong silent type,
I remember him just standing back, taking it all in
with a huge grin on his face.
I am so grateful that I am their grand daughter.
I am grateful for every moment I spent with them.
I am grateful that my kids get a piece of them in my dad.
And, mostly I am grateful that we will all be together again one day.
